| Finnish Design: Myths and Moomins
26th Sept to 20th Dec
Finland’s landscape, its forests, lakes, ice and shifting northern light, has long shaped a national imagination in which the natural and the mythic are inseparable. Elemental forces, transformation, resilience and craft run through generations of Finnish storytelling, and those same qualities resurface in the country’s modern design: clarity, restraint, quiet strength, and a profound respect for the natural world.
|Discover the Collection
Ken Stradling built this collection over a lifetime: over 500 pieces of studio ceramics, 200 pieces of Scandinavian and British studio glass, plus furniture, industrial design, decorative objects, paintings and prints; including furniture by Marcel Breuer, one of the great names to emerge from the Bauhaus.
Alongside our rolling exhibitions, a wide selection of the Collection is on permanent display across our second and third floors, included with your entry. Much of what you'll see reflects the kind of work sold by The Bristol Guild of Applied Art from the 1940s until its closure in 2024, alongside an earlier collection tracing Bristol's own design history.
